This work delves into the Chinese anti-war art movement of the early 20th century, specifically the New Woodcut Movement.
This subject holds profound personal and cultural significance for me, as my grandfather, Chen Yanqiao, was a pioneer and advocate of this influential movement. Using my grandfather’s experiences as a narrative anchor, I aim to create a visually compelling and emotionally resonant animated piece that explores the historical context, artistic techniques, and societal impact of the New Woodcut Movement.
My creative approach will incorporate traditional woodcut-inspired aesthetics, blending them with modern animation techniques to capture the raw emotion and revolutionary spirit of the movement. Through this project, I hope to not only preserve the legacy of the New Woodcut Movement but also reimagine its artistic language through animation, bringing its spirit and stories to life in a way that resonates with contemporary audiences.
